  79. Costs."  CAC and "Strategies ..." allow users to learn how to Maximize
  80. College Financial Aid. Since CAC also includes all tax calculations, it
  81. is possible to play "What IF ?" to test your personal and business
  82. financial plans before you implement them--to see where you may stand.

  84. "Strategies ..." includes many $ saving financial aid facts. It is a
  85. Think Ahead, must-read, self-help electronic book for both parents and
  86. students--covering aid facts for both public and private colleges.

  89. your "workbook" as you research how to maximize your family's financial
  90. aid. See the Installation Instructions for how to use "Strategies ..."

  128.               HOW TO INSTALL COLLEGE AID CALCULATOR (CAC) AND
  129.                THE "STRATEGIES TO REDUCE COLLEGE COSTS" BOOK

  132. The combined package including the College Aid Calculator program, the
  133. book "Strategies to Reduce College Costs" and our tutorial is distributed
  134. in a compressed file, COLAID24.ZIP. To open this file, load it into a
  135. temporary directory, change to that directory, and use the un-zip utility
  136. provided by your bulletin board or CD-ROM to uncompress the basic program
  137. files--then type SETUP to uncompress the rest.
  138.  
  139. MAKING DISKETTE COPIES
  140.  
  141. We encourage you to make copies of CAC and Strategies... for yourself,
  142. your friends--for anyone you know with college in their future. To do
  143. so, before you install the program, go to the temporary directory where
  144. you have uncompressed the files. From there, copy all of the file to a
  145. disk labeled Disk 1--except for the following files which belong on disk.
  146. 2: col_aid.1, get_rdme.txt and getodo.bat. To install the CAC files onto
  147. another computer, proceed as described below.

  149. COLLEGE AID CALCULATOR
  150.  
  151. To load CAC, you must have a minimum of:
  152.  
  153.     386 processor - 486 strongly recommended
  154.     8MB of RAM
  155.     At least 9MB of free disk space to install, 6.3MB after installation
  156.  
  157. CAC has its own automatic Installer. To install CAC, in the directory
  158. where you have loaded the files, type SETUP and [Enter]. All you need to
  159. do then is to answer a few questions from the Installer and be sure that
  160. your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are configured as explained in
  161. the README.TXT file that appears after installation.  You'll be up and
  162. running in no time, and ready to start learning how to save on college
  163. costs by qualifying for the greatest amount of aid possible!
  164.  
  165. You may also install directly from the set of backup disks that were
  166. created as described above: Place Disk 1 in your A: or B: drive and
  167. type SETUP and press ENTER--from Windows Program Manager, choose FILE,
  168. RUN and type in A: or B:SETUP and press ENTER.

  170. "STRATEGIES TO REDUCE COLLEGE COSTS"
  171.  
  172. "Strategies..." is stored in a special compressed file called
  173. BOOKS.ZIP, which will be found in the directory where you installed CAC.
  174. We recommend that you move BOOKS.ZIP to a separate directory. Then,
  175. unzip the file--you will find that it contains not only "Strategies..."
  176. but also the CAC tutorial "COACH," which is described below.
  177. "Strategies..." has been stored in Rich Text Format (RTF)--a Microsoft
  178. standard, which may be read by Microsoft Word and many other word
  179. processors. Boot your word processor, Choose File, Open, File Type: RTF
  180. or Rich Text Format. Then, select the directory where STRATS22.RTF has
  181. been installed, open it and proceed as instructed.

  183. If your word processor is not able to read the STRATS24.RTF file, you
  184. may use your word processor's ASCII file format reader to open
  185. STRATS24.TXT, which has also been included. This format does not retain
  186. all of the nice formatting codes that RTF handles, such as Font sizes,
  187. Bold, Underline and Italics. However, if this is your only choice, just
  188. use your word processor to add these attributes as you read.

  190. COACH - COllege Aid Calculator Helper (TUTORIAL)
